Accessibility Statement
Cybel is a small, family-run kitchen, and we would like the website to work the way the dining room does. Anyone should be able to read the menu, check the hours, book a table and reach us, without needing to ask for help and without having to fight the page.
What we are aiming for
We are working toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium, and we aim to meet applicable accessibility requirements including the Americans with Disabilities Act.
We treat that as a direction we are actively moving in, not a box we have ticked. This page describes where we actually are, including the parts that are not finished.
What we have done
This site was rebuilt in 2026 as hand-written code rather than a page builder, which gave us direct control over its structure: headings in a real order, text alternatives on images, labelled form fields, and pages that can be operated with a keyboard alone.
On 12 September 2026 we ran an automated accessibility audit of all 8 published pages using axe-core, tested against WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 at levels A and AA. It found 20 elements that failed, and every one of them was the same kind of problem: text set too faint against its background. The two causes were the small legal line in the footer and an accent colour used for small links on our dark green pages.
We corrected all of them by changing those colours, then ran the audit again across every page at both desktop and phone widths to confirm the fixes held rather than assuming they had. The audit found no missing image descriptions, no unlabelled form controls and no broken heading order anywhere on the site.
Display preferences you can set yourself
Every page carries an accessibility preferences panel, reachable from the button in the corner of the screen. It lets you:
- Increase or decrease the text size across the whole site
- Switch on higher contrast, which deepens the text and background colours
- Switch to a dyslexia friendly typeface with looser letter spacing
- Reduce motion, which turns off animations, autoplay and scroll effects
Your choice is remembered on your device. This panel is not an accessibility overlay and does not pretend to be one. It does not scan the page, rewrite our markup or claim to make the site compliant. Each control does one thing: it changes how this site renders for you.
If you have already asked your operating system or browser to reduce motion, this site follows that setting without you having to do anything here.
Where we know we are not finished
Automated testing catches roughly a third of accessibility problems. A clean automated result is a floor, not a certificate, so it would be dishonest to leave this section out. As things stand:
- A full manual pass with a keyboard and a screen reader has not been completed yet. Automated tools cannot judge whether the reading order and focus order actually make sense to someone using them.
- Three pieces of text sit over photography, where there is no single background colour to measure. Our audit could not decide whether they pass, so they are unconfirmed rather than known to be fine.
- No independent third party has audited this site, and nothing here has been certified by anyone.
These are the items we are working through next. If you run into something that is not on this list, we would genuinely rather hear about it than not.
Parts of the site we do not control
Booking a table uses a reservation tool provided by Yelp, and ordering online goes to our ordering page on Square. Those services are built and maintained by other companies, and their accessibility is not something we can change from our side.
